My goal in the structural framing of the building was to minimize unneeded columns while still providing the support needed to ensure the safety of those inside. I kept the layout fairly vanilla, aligning my grids to the walls of the building witch approximately 20’ spacing in between each grid. This value changed a little based on some of the room dimensions. I placed columns at intersecting grids and removed any columns that only supported a 1-story span. For both my columns and beams I decided to go with steel framing. In hindsight, I think I would have gone with wood since it fits the aesthetic of the building more.
