Description
BIMCity, say hello to your latest and greatest research station! The proposed design of this research station emphasizes simplicity and sustainability. The 500sq-ft station is organized as two overlapping rectangles, creating distinct yet open zones for research, collaboration, and storage. A facade of south-facing windows maximize natural light and passive solar-heating. A single sloped roof provides optimal orientation for Pv panel installation. Thick, insulated 2x6 walls and marvelous concrete slab flooring enhance thermal performance and comfort throughout the day. Native trees on the east facade offer seasonal shading and habitat value, complementing the building’s low-impact, site-sensitive design. The interior includes an 8-foot lab bench with a sink, flexible workspace for up to four researchers, and is ADA compliant. What makes this building really stand out is its low cost*!!!
*fine print: low costs due to very miniature plan and hand-constructible wood framing entirely built by students (aka unpaid labor)!
