What are the primary goals of creating a building model? Who are the key stakeholders?
- What do they need?
- What do they care about most?
The purpose of creating a building model is to improve collaboration and accuracy so that it can help with the builders to stay on task and see the future building and what it suppose to look like. The key stake holders are people to invest in the project and the workers to work together to build it. In addition, the people that designing the project too.
How much detail should you include in your building model? How do you decide?
- As you develop your initial design?
- As you continue to iterate and develop on your design?
- What are the key stages?
- And how much detail should you include at each stage?
I would include the dimension of the building, the door, the window, the items that are hard to see such as things that are placed on the wall. If I can I would try to label as much as I can because the more detail the better. The need for accuracy information help with costs and time thus with more label to help identify would save a lot of time and money. I can started out with the conceptual elements such as the shapes or symbol to convery the design. Then I was continue with the design I would try to be more specific such as size and shape and location and orientation.
How much detail should you include about the composition (layers, materials, thicknesses) of your wall, floor, and roof assemblies at different stages of your design process?
- Conceptual design
- Preliminary design
- Design development
- Construction documentation
Many door and window manufacturers provide Revit families for doors and windows that you can specify for your building design.
- What is the advantage to manufacturers for providing these families? (it's not free to create and provide them...)
- What is the benefit to you as the designer of using these manufacturer-provided families? Is there an advantage to using them versus the families provided in the Revit library?
What are the advantages of getting the Revit component families (for furniture, equipment, and fittings) directly from the manufacturer versus from an online sharing website like RevitCity.com?
With Revit families, the items can provide more accuracy, performance, and reliability over online website such as RevitCity.com. It provides accuracy and details with more precise, real-world dimensions and technical data and materials. It is essential for accurate, cost estimation, and procurement.
