Key Findings from the Interview

  • What do you first think of when you hear the word sustainability?
  • ➡️ The first thing that came to her mind was “the planet”. She devotedly explains how it saddens her to see Earth “slowly dying” as a result of human negligence. However, she adds that similarly to how the problem initially started with humans (through excessive burning of fossil fuels for instance), it is the humans’ duty to finally solve it. She elaborates by saying that we are slowly and surely noticing how the world is trying to do better and be better by adapting to sustainable lifestyles, and that is in addition to all the clean technologies that have been developing in recent years, especially renewable energy.

  • What makes you firmly believe in what you said earlier? In other words, what motivates you to continuously have faith that humans will end up “saving the planet”?
  • ➡️ She emphasizes that she doesn’t have a choice other than to faith in humanity and believe that we will overcome climate change and the issues that come alongside it. She adds that otherwise, if she didn’t have this firm stand on the matter, then it would mean that the future generations won’t be able to lead a normal life simply because of their ancestor’s carelessness about this serious issue.

  • What are some of the sustainable habits that you try to incorporate in your daily life?
  • ➡️ She attempts to sort all of the house’s waste from plastic, paper, metal, and organic in order for them to be sent to a recycling NGO. She adds that as a mother, she is constantly environmentally educating her children in hopes of motivating them to live more sustainably whether it’s through teaching them to buy reusable metal water bottles or encouraging them to volunteer at environmental NGOs.

  • Are there any sustainable habits that you want to practice but still finding hard to commit to?
  • ➡️ She explains that with all of her duties and responsibilities, she seldomly has the time to reflect on her polluting and non-sustainable habits in order for her to improve them and make them cleaner. She also wishes to work with environmental NGOs, whether to help her own small-scale community or large-scale society, to raise more awareness about the importance of shifting to sustainable habits that may be as small as recycling and as big as transitioning to renewable energy systems for electricity instead of natural gas.
