Description
This research station is a small single-story building divided into functional zones— namely the open lab/work space, ADA approved restroom, and storage room. The main area, the aforementioned Open Lab/Work Space occupies the bottom portion (South) which features a round central table for white-board meetings as well as three desks along the right (East). The Lab/Work Space also features a 10 ft table counter workbench with a built in sink and plenty of South-facing windows to ensure for the capture of light and heat during the day. At the North of the building, there is a simple Storage Room and a Restroom approved by the ADA guidelines. These rooms are accessible through a small connecting corridor and the corridor’s center features a front door and backdoor that swing outwards given the unique shape of the building. Finally, the station is mounted with a roof sloped constrained to the South and the North of the building. Photovoltaic panels are lined on the roof facing the South top maximize the capture of solar energy.
