Intended users

The intended users are the designers and mass timber structure companies who want to design multi-story mass-timber buildings. My solution can provide affordable and optimal structural components to clients by inputting grid size.

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

These days, as interest in environmental issues grows, the demand for tall buildings made of mass timber has been becoming higher and higher. Fig 1 shows the example of mass timber member size depending on the grid span. I am going to design so that dynamo code creates the structural model based on input grid size.

Inputs

<Configurator>

Grid Span Length - X, Y

Number of Grids - X, Y

Floor Height

Number of Grids

Cost of Mass Timber Components (input in family parameter)

<Fixed Inputs Numbers>

Density of Mass Timber

Member of Mass Timber

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

As figure 1 shows, the member of mass timber varies depending on grid span. So, when the grid span length was input, the node will choose the optimal member size of beams. For example, if 28’ is input as grid span, 8-3/4”x30” beam will be chosen. With this strategy, the mass timber structure will be created and its total cost will be calculated.
