What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling several proposed design alternatives for a portion of the building?

One advantage is that you are able to see how each of the alternatives interact and exist with the already existing elements. With separate models it may be hard to see what is different with each proposal an how each proposal connects to the existing conditions.

In your project, which features of the proposed design did you choose to model as design alternatives?

I chose to present different options of table and desk layouts for both an open area and more isolated classroom. I chose these features because I think it’s important to visualize how the same space could be used in different way depending on the context of the room. For example, in one seating option, I proposed more conference-like seating while the other is an abundance of more informal circular tables. My biggest challenge was determining how to make each of my options truly distinct and different enough form one another.
