Description
My proposed design complements the existing building’s design, but with a modern and refreshing twist. A flat roof provides contrast between the existing building’s gables, while still maintaining the campus’s spirit through its materials - with plenty of room for future installations of energy efficiency elements like solar panels and rooftop gardens! Similarly, the arched corridors allow for scenic views and outdoor access. Many windows provide daylighting and passive solar, for students to enjoy a bit of the outdoors indoors! For studying, working, and socializing, students have many available meeting and common rooms that all lead to main circulation spaces and hallways, for organic and spontaneous interactions with old friends as well as new. 2 interesting features, which clients can choose from, are different layouts for key facilities of the building: makerspaces and bathrooms. Depending on the clients budget, expectations, and permitted student activities, each makerspace caters to a different set of students, with one Design Option 1 offering a more flexible, Google-esque workspace for students of all backgrounds, while Design Option 2 offers equipment and supplies for more technical, working students with drafting tables and standings desk. Each Makerspace design, however, includes printers and copier machines, for easy access to these resources. More practically, the two bathroom designs cater to different demographics and water usage capacities.
