Description

Enter a brief paragraph (5 to 7 sentences) describing the features of your proposed design that you'd like to highlight here...

Note: There may be a bug in my file as I cannot edit the room labels and place square footage. The “Edit Family” option is missing in the field header and is inactive when I right click. There is an image posted on the Module 5 Slack channel. Unfortunately, we were not able to remedy the issue during office hours.

In keeping with the parallel universe theme, my roughly 27,000 square foot design is a mirror image of the Y2E2 building but with a modern metal exterior and large glass windows overlooking the newly formed courtyard. The ground floor exterior shape preserves the symmetry of the number of arches (4,6,4) seen in both buildings. The large spacing between the buildings allows for the free flow of students between the buildings, while also allowing for a convenient, enclosed connection, especially in during bad weather, on the second level. The distance between the buildings also prevents those situated in the open area of Y2E2’s upper floor from feeling crowded by another building in close proximity.

The theme of the ground floor is exhibition and fabrication where there is an exhibition room and a variety of production rooms. There is also a large roll up door in the back of the building for the ease of delivery and loading/unloading of big fabricated items (products, machinery, etc.). In addition to standard plumbing, the bathrooms on this floor are equipped with emergency showers, should they be needed in the case of an industrial accident.

The theme of the middle floor is special events and training where there is an open area with large dinner tables and a reception desk that can be used for award ceremonies, special speeches/interviews, corporate team building events, student comedy or performance nights, etc. There are two auxiliary classrooms that also be used for a variety of activities, such as training or tutoring. All of these areas are directly connected to storefront windows that provide ample natural light during the daylight hours. There is also space provided for storage and preparation of items related to special events as well as an extra pair of bathrooms.

The theme of the upper floor is campus life, where there is a mix of dining, entertainment, and collaboration areas for nutrition, socializing, and studying. This floor also has a cafe conveniently located near the Y2E2 side of the building adjacent to the corner staircase and a computer room. Most areas are located close to storefront windows providing natural light.

The second staircase is placed strategically to allow for a straight line to easily divide the two “wings” of the building.

The elevator is placed near the midpoint of the two staircases. Lastly, considerations are made for utilities and the maintenance folks.

The alternate options are:

Ground floor -

Option 1: Open student bulletin area

Option 2: Enclosed student bulletin area

Middle floor -

Option 1: Formal round table setting for event area

Option 2: Large communal U shaped table setting for performances

Upper floor -

Option 1: More private dining with small tables

Option 2: Large communal dining with large tables
