Image of My Model
Description
The main goals for this extension were to design new spaces that harmonized with the preexisting ones and to maintain the original aesthetic while giving it a modern, updated look.
I added an “L”-shape addition and modified the preexisting building to keep the forms consistent and engaging. I staggered the depths of the building’s faces to maintain visual interest. I did not want them to be on the same plane. The large, wide staircase also gives an inviting feel to the second-story open entry.
I eliminated part of the front-facing balcony (the walkway above the arches) and propose adding a large, generative design patio to break up the large flat face. The patio is a separate structure and is not included in the building plans/sheets. The simple generative design structure fits nicely within the courtyard of this Engineering department facility. It also brings some of the elements of the engineered curtain wall, and brings them closer to the viewer’s eye level. This creates a longer visual path/transition as your eyes move from the base of the building to the top.
The assignment was time-consuming but rewarding. Because I integrated the extension into the previous building (not just one wall) and modified the pre-existing roof (without just adding a new roof around it), I ended up learning a lot… and having a lot of fun
******Note****** 11/9/2025 I Just looked at my file and the 3D view did not upload correctly! It was just showing one wall instead of the whole model. I just sent a separate file that only shows the 3D view. All other sheets are in the first file I sent.
