I chose the U-shaped design because it balances daylight, comfort, and roof space for solar. The courtyard lets in light to more rooms, reducing the need for electric lighting. The roof areas remain spacious and suitable for PV panels. It’s not as deep-plan as the solid block, resulting in fewer dark interior spaces. It also avoids the tall folded mass's vertical windows that can create glare and increase cooling needs.
