Please note: I could only assign issues to myself. None of the TAs/Instructors showed up.
I structured my “PI”-shaped design from Module 6 for this assignment. The shape of the building is convenient and economical to build as it implements rectangular shapes and allows for easy division between residential, shopping and entertainment, and office/industrial areas. It naturally, creates a communal courtyard as well as two L-shaped open spaces that can used for parks or other outdoor activities such as an amphitheater. Structurally, the building uses a steel frame with concrete floors. Given that the original building was designed to meet square footage limits, the dimensions of the wings is slightly non-symmetric, and therefore, some grid-lines are not equidistant as some others. However, all columns are spaced within 19’ to 25’ apart so that a similar style beam can be used in the framing. The three primary issues are 1) the window spacing and column spacing clash, 2) the braces do not connect well at the endpoints, and 3) the window supports go through the wall braces.
Using ACC Model Coordination
