Description
My model is a “U” shaped building with steel construction. The face of the building has curtain walls to capture the sunlight. For structural support, my building has structural columns, beams, beam systems, and piles. I elected to use longer piles for San Francisco to support the building on what can be unstable terrain, given unstable soil layers that can be a result of proximity to the ocean or earthquakes. I chose steel as my construction material over wood because of steel’s durability. Given the high possibility of fires in the Bay Area and rot due to humidity since San Francisco is on the coast, I chose steel as the superior construction material.
