Design Decision 2: Material Cost vs. Construction Time vs. Surface Area and Volume
- Design Variables - building height, width, length, cost of wall materials, cost of roofing, volume
- Evaluators - total material cost based on building dimensions, relative construction time (greater time for a taller building), surface area
- Tradeoffs - It is beneficial to lower the total cost of materials by increasing height (minimizing the cost of the most expensive material, roofing), but increasing the height increases the construction time
Goal: Minimize the surface area, construction time, material cost, and maximize the volume
