Introduction
Hi all! My name is Peiyao and I am a first-year master student in Structural Engineering. I finished my undergrad in both University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Zhejiang University in China. It is a joint program held by these two universities, and I spent three year in China while one year at Champaign. I originally come from Guangzhou, China, which has plenty of delicious food and is super near to Hong Kong (might be easier this way to describe its location)!
During my spare time, I like photography, travelling, and hiking! Some photos I took during the winter break are attached here^^ If any of you are also interested in taking photos, feel free to contact me and we can hang out sometimes 🙌🙌🙌
Professional Experience
After I received my bachelor’s degree, I joined the Guangzhou Architectural Design Institute as a structural engineer intern during the summer, where I have accomplished the structural design and construction drawings of an activity center in Guangzhou, China. I also assisted in the reinforcement design of structural elements for a high-rise tower.
I will join Arup this summer as a structural engineer intern, and I am looking forward to learning more on sustainability design and participating in innovative projects!
Meanwhile, I am continuously interested in structural health monitoring, and have conducted several research projects. One of the latest is to develop a robust damage-sensitive feature for assessing bridge health using vehicle vibration response data. I really enjoyed challenging myself to innovative techniques in this field!
Motivation and Goal
The reason I am taking CEE 120C/220C is that I am interested in parametric design and want to learn more about how to optimize our design solution. I had experience in Revit before but not in Rhino, Dynamo or Grasshopper. It would be great if I could get familiar with those during this quarter and apply them in future career!
