Can you guarantee that the completed building will match the performance predicted by the analysis in its day-to-day operations?

  • Why or why not?

No, because we used only yearly averages in this performance predictions, which will not match daily values. We make several assumptions in the model which may not be true during day-to-day operation of the building.

What level of detail should be included in a 4D simulation?

  • Should you include all of the elements in the building model?

It will depend on the purpose of the 4D simulation. It depends on the target audience and who is the recipient of the information. For example, a structural engineer does not require the simulation to be detailed till furniture and finishes. Including floors, beams, columns, and joists is enough to give an overview of the building and show how construction sequence would look like.

How can the feedback shown in a 4D simulation help you to optimize the project schedule?

  • What are the main benefits of linking model elements to the project schedule?

We can use 4D simulation to see which parts of the building do not clash or affect the speed of construction when scheduled together. We can see how the overall schedule would look like and its duration, which can help to plan ahead and ensure that we stay on track.
