Building Design Inspirations

After my second check-in session, I gained confidence in terms of how I hope to steer my building design. I feel inspired by Trinity Washington University’s design for their Payden Academic Center. I hope to emulate various dynamics TWU has incorporated within their design, for instance: the inclusion of various differently styled learning rooms and an overall spacious building design. As demonstrated, the building design fosters a comfortable and spacious environment for students to thrive in — there are learning centers of all shapes and sizes, and the overall distribution of the rooms optimizes the building space. Although the building appears to be spacious, it also promotes a feeling of coziness. I believe the selection of furniture I implement within my building will influence the level of comfort within the learning environment.

Levels I and II slightly differ as level I reserved a significantly large space for the lobby/main desk area. I have also devoted a large area to the main entrance lobby as I believe a good first impression is imperative to the success of a business — this area will be the most aesthetically pleasing within the building.

Unique Features to Implement within Space Design Guidelines:

With a 50,000 SF building, I hope to implement sustainable design strategies to optimize building performance and energy efficiency. To enhance energy conservation measures, I will implement an HVAC system featuring economizer mode capabilities to take advantage of the natural ventilation and relatively low temperature air. In addition to an energy efficient hvac system, I will also incorporate skylights for direct light within the learning areas, as well as large operable windows for increased ventilation and enhanced occupant comfort levels.
