My main focus heading into the design of our exhibition structure is on integration. I want to be aware of any biases I may have regarding building performance and think of innovative ways to employ systems while also conducting analyses to demonstrate where we can achieve the best environmental and economic returns from the systems we select.
For example, I don't want to rely solely on PV panels on the roof. While they may be a part of my design, I aim to move beyond surface-level “check-the-box” strategies.
There are many materials, methods, and systems that are effective on their own, but when combined, they might result in a less effective solution compared to different permutations of those same systems.
My goal is to focus on data-driven design to re-evaluate my typical approach to constructing a building. I want to take more risks by exploring whether new strategies can enhance building methodologies.
