When designing a project...
….the building should adapt to the terrain. Doing so not only saves time and effort in construction, but also can present unique opportunities for shape and design of the interior.
What are the advantages of stacking the levels of a multi-story building vertically?
Stacking vertically is a wise use of space; you can continue to build vertically, but maybe not always horizontally due to constraints of the land plot’s perimeter. That’s why we see skyscrapers in cities where plots of land are incredibly expensive. A reason to build horizontally instead of vertically is to spread the load.
Why do stairs follow specific proportions with a set relationship between the tread length and riser height?
Stairs follow specific proportions to be more accessible and prevent accidents. Unusually steep stairs can cause people to fall and flat stairs take up a lot of space. Building modeling helps prevent errors in installing stairs because it clearly lays out in what direction the stairs will move, the dimensions of any landing, and specifics of the railings.
