Project Pitch: Really fun and cool tents

Intended users

The millions of Revit users who desperately need to create pseudo-realistic looking tent structures.

This may include individuals such as:

  • Event planners
  • Architects with outdoor temporary structures
  • Hobbyists looking for cool tent models

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

One of Revit’s biggest strengths is its ability to convert two dimensional architectural/structural/civil plans into three dimensions. As such, it has become an incredibly powerful visualization tool for designers to convey their ideas to those with less trained imaginations. This package is targeted mainly to architects and event planners to provide a quick and easy way to create a fairly realistic looking temporary tent structure (similar to the model I created for Module 7 but this time using the DynaShape plugin to create a physics based model) for use in larger models. As such structures are often used in larger outdoor events such as weddings or other outdoor gatherings, I believe this tool can provide another option for model builders to create realistic-looking temporary structure options for their clients.

Inputs

The main inputs will be the following:

  • Tent dimensions
  • Number of poles
  • Pole spacing/locations
  • Pole heights

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

A flat tent structure will be created based on the tent dimensions provided by the user. Then, based on attractor logic and the pole heights and locations provided, the grid points will be raised vertically, creating the illusion that they are draped over the tent poles.

Outputs

Gorgeous tent geometries than can be directly loaded into Revit
