What are the principal advantages of creating a conceptual design model using masses before diving into the detailed design and building element modeling?

The mass components allow us to imagine the perspective view of the building in brief and easily.

When we carry out designing conceptual prototyping, we want to create many prototypes and alternatives, this revit mass function is one of the best way to reduce spending time to make mass models rather than making the actual model.

Should all buildings be modeled first using conceptual masses?

When is it needed/appropriate? And when not?

For example, should you create a conceptual mass model of a small house?

  • If owner already has some ideas for design, it is not necessary to create conceptual mass model. rather, we have to create detailed model based on that idea.

Can you think of any examples of a real building around the world that most likely was created by exploring the form using conceptual mass models?
