Can you guarantee that the completed building will match the performance predicted by the analysis in its day-to-day operations?

  • Why or why not?

No, the completed building’s goal is to get a close idea of how it is going to be but different factors can change the predicted performance in its day-to-day operations. It depends on some external factors for example the weather outside but also depends on the user's behaviors inside the building.

When choosing settings for each of the building performance factors, should you always choose the setting that gives the absolute lowest predicted energy use?

No. Choosing the settings that give you the absolute lowest energy use is not always the smartest choice as the construction price also has to be taken into consideration. Finding a good balance between a reasonable construction price and a good level of energy use is the best option if you have a limited budget.

What level of detail should be included in a 4D simulation?

  • Should you include all of the elements in the building model?

Enough detail should be included in a 4D simulation to provide a good understanding of the main structure of the building and therefore visualize the construction plan. Providing at least, floors, beams, columns, and joists will help have a good picture of the main structure of the building and give a good understanding of how the building construction is going to be sequenced.
