Description
The field research station I designed is a simple wooden structure composed of a concrete slab floor, wooden walls, wooden roof, and various transom windows. When a researcher first enters the station, they are greeted at a small entry hall. They also are able to see through a glass wall into a small meeting area where their coworkers join to talk through the plan for the day. As the researchers walk south, they enter an open floor plan work station that receives a large amount of natural light. Desks are positioned to face west as after a long day at work, they can enjoy a view of the sunset. The desks are approximately 7 ft apart to sure the workers have room to breath. The various windows throughout the space serve to allow sun to enter and heat the room. An ADA-compliant bathroom is centrally located to ensure any workers with physical disabilities can easily access the space. I additionally positioned the lab table in the open common space near the storage room so researchers could conveniently carry materials from their desks to the bench. Finally, I positioned the storage room on the east side of the building so that the central work space could take advantage of the various windows on the south side.
