Why do different teams of designers and subcontractors link and share their models during the design process?

So they can collaborate and join forces without becoming a hindrance to each other

How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?

It would have been a lot slower, and they would have been using physical models and drawings. Efficiency is a key advantage of digital coordination, however, it can lead to faster and maybe more sloppy work. If it is not set up properly, one team could mess up the model for another.

At what point in the project development process should design coordination start?

It should start after a general form or mass is created as otherwise it would be too early and the teams might be referencing radically different models. Once this is agreed upon by both teams, teams can begin narrowing in on their respective fields.
