What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • Which stakeholders require 2D views, and why?

It is best to show the furnishings, floor, ceiling, walls, and fixtures of each room in the building in 3D views so that the client can get a good sense of the size of the space, lighting conditions, and other important details. The stakeholders that require 2D views include contractors and architects. Contractors need the 2D views to see the exact measurements of the space and construct the building. The 3D views are not the most important for the construction crew since they will not choose the furnishings of the room.

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

Schedule views can be extremely helpful when it comes to procurement and model-based estimating because they are a great way to keep track of the components that are needed for the building, such as all the doors, windows, and walls. The schedule views can provide important information such as dimensions, area, cost, etc. They can help a project stay organized and are an easy way to share information between different stakeholders (i.e. designer to contractor).
