Design Journal Entry - Module 8

I chose steel frame for the exhibition center since it is common in California and can handle large span. I would like to provide as much open space as I can for the public. And I feel like steel with curtain wall forms a sense of contemporary.

I added grids to the architectural model based that the steel beam span is normally 30-35ft.

To place structural columns at the intersections of grids, I adjusted the egress and hallways to avoid the columns being the way of people. The columns are w10*33.

The beams are w12*26.

I chose strip foundations for the project as the building is kind of long. The foundation depth is 18 inches.
