Module 6 - Points to Ponder
What are the principal advantages of creating a conceptual design model using masses before diving into the detailed design and building element modeling?
An advantage of creating a conceptual model with masses are the ability to create non-uniform structures in a fast and easy way, compared to painstakingly editing components like walls and floors. Another pro is allowing for the overall understanding of the buildings shape to facilitate thinking about more specific components and uses of the space.
Should all buildings be modeled first using conceptual masses?
I don’t think all buildings should be modeled first using conceptual masses. This method is more helpful for large scale buildings where we are thinking about how we want the overall shape to be. For smaller buildings, it might be better to build by components from the get-go.
