Module 4 - Points to Ponder

What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

When giving clients insight into the vision of the home, 3D views more accurately represent one’s idea. For example, making 3D views helps us understand the clients needs better by having them be able to show us the idea they have in mind. If we build a model based on what we believe to be the idea the client had in mind, they can correct us on anything we misinterpreted

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

It is important to have different versions of the model including different versions of the floor plans. One version should have all the components with nothing left out for a detailed overview. Another component should be for those on the building team that will use the floor plan to construct the building. This one only needs the actual structure of the building because that is all the information they need to build. Another version is for the clients which only needs enough information to give them a good idea of what the building will look and feel like.

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

Schedule views help us easily see exactly how many of a building component we have. It gives us an easy to read list rather than having to count the number of objects our model has and clicking on them to see which type they are. For example for the windows we can sort them based on which level they are and which type and we can calculate the areas and add them up so we can then estimate how much it would cost for all of them.
