Intended User

  • Construction Managers: To optimize project timelines and budgets while ensuring design quality.
  • Architects: To balance aesthetic considerations with practical constraints, enhancing the overall design.
  • Stakeholders: To align project goals with financial and visual expectations, maximizing project success and satisfaction.
  • Structural Engineers: To ensure structural integrity and safety while accommodating design and cost constraints.
  • Urban Planners: To integrate the building's aesthetic into the surrounding environment and cityscape, enhancing overall urban design.
  • Cost Estimators: To provide accurate cost projections based on design variations, aiding in budget planning and decision-making.
  • Interior Designers: To coordinate interior aesthetics with the overall building design, creating cohesive and visually pleasing spaces.
  • Sustainability Consultants: To assess the environmental impact of design choices and optimize energy efficiency alongside aesthetic considerations.

What's the problem I am addressing?

Choosing design of the building is never a straightforward decision and there is no single perfect answer to it, there are many factors that should be taken into consideration and many trade offs to be made, this task becomes extremely tough when we give attention to aesthetics. Using this tool users will be able to generate building shapes while maximizing aesthetics and minimizing cost and time of the model, which will help developers choose their desired shape by making trade offs between these 3 factors. For this task I will create a user friendly generative study model.

Inputs

The model: the building will be made out of 3 polygons and user will be able to choose their desired criterions.

Constants

1) Number of sides of polygon

2) Side of polygons

3) Height of the structure

4) Number of story

5) Cost constants per sqft

6) Time constants per sqft

Variables

7) Offset of middle polygon

8) Offset of top polygon

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

Whenever there is a misalignment between adjacent floors, the building looks more complex and aesthetically more valuable, but it takes more time to build misaligned floors. To quantify these factors, I will project adjacent floors on each other and create formulas which will map misalignment of the floors to the time required to build sqft and aesthetic factors. The price model of sqft floor area will be based on height.

Shift of the top and middle polygons will be restricted to some values because if we shift them too much the structure might not be stable to hold.
