What are the principal advantages of creating a conceptual design model using masses before diving into the detailed design and building element modeling?

This approach is not only time-efficient, but it is also a great way to explore different designs before diving into details. It is quick and easy to make various extruded shapes of possible designs for a building; these can then be stacked, rotated, reshaped, or merged to create new possibilities. Especially for large projects like skyscrapers and tall buildings, creating a conceptual design using masses allows for exploration of design at a high level to visualize different options for the design of the model. This also allows the designer to share their conceptual designs with stakeholders early on before more time is invested in a model, and obtain feedback before continuing with the design process.

Can you think of any examples of a real building around the world that most likely was created by exploring the form using conceptual mass models?
