What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

The 2D view is essential for construction, but it doesn’t provide much information on how the building will feel and be used. Only in a 3D view can you really see how you yourself would feel inside the building, and how the furniture, casework, and other objects contribute to that.

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

Not always. Sometimes, a photorealistic render can be intimidating to the client, making them feel as though they cannot change anything. This can lead not only to a dissatisfied client who never got to buy their true dream, or even a lost contract because they felt that you were too set in stone on ideas they didn’t love. Instead, at preliminary stages, use a more stylized view, perhaps even with sketch lines, so that the client knows that this is just the base design upon which to build.

Name some applications where viewing the building and model information in virtual reality or augmented reality would be most beneficial?

  • Are there advantages to using a C.A.V.E as a virtual environment versus VR headsets?

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

They can format itemized lists of necessary parts to procure (such as doors, windows, etc) in a way that is very understandable for all to read (for cost estimation and for later acquisition). They can also gather data on components such as walls in a way that makes the amount of building material required for these components very accessible.
