Goal 1: Energy Efficiency

• Measure:  Electricity and gas usage
• Targets:
• Target: -40% electricity usage, -25% gas usage in comparison to similar size and use buildings
• Minimum: -30% electricity usage, -15% gas usage in comparison to similar size and use buildings
• Strategies:
• One strategy I’d like to pursue to reduce electricity use is natural lighting via reflected skylights for soft lighting with minimal heat gain.
• To increase thermal efficiency of the building, reducing both electricity and gas usage, I’d like to utilize the natural green roof in conjunction with traditional low U components for insulation. Architecturally, I’d like to incorporate large overhangs on the sides of the building for reduced solar heating. To increase the efficiency of the HVAC system, I’d like to create a system that encourages natural ventilation and can adjust individual rooms according to building occupancy.

Goal 2: Water Efficiency

• Measure:  Water Usage
• Targets:
• Target: -50% water usage in comparison to similar size and use buildings
• Minimum: -35% water usage in comparison to similar size and use buildings
• Strategies:
• To minimize water usage, I would like to incorporate a water reclamation system able to reuse greywater for toilets, irrigation, fire suppression, and cooling.

Goal 3: Ecosystem friendly

• Measure:  Waste weight, garden produce weight
• Targets:
• Target: -70% operational landfill waste in comparison to similar size and use buildings
• construction waste reduction—material choice-look at what goes into landfills and avoid that

• green cover, species planted—any specific green metric, make it up
• Minimum: -50% waste in comparison to similar size and use buildings
• Strategies:
• compostable packaging for cafe/gift shop
• compostable materials in bathrooms
