Description

This curved design has a few inspirations. First, it follows from nature’s often curving shapes, rather than the conventional linear home design that nature rarely embodies. The rounded windows and arced walls, roofs, and driveway reflect this. The three arcs that define the home all face southward, providing a wider field of view than linear walls towards the scenery. The roofs are steep, especially the central roof, to allow snow to more easily slide off and to offer a more expansive view of the outdoors and reduce the barrier between inside and outside. The upper level extends above the lower level to provide privacy to the lower level bedrooms and anyone seeking quiet in the lower level patio. The study room and garage form the two wings of the home, and to enhance their symmetry, facing North, the two windowed garage doors are mirrored by two round windows in the study room. Finally, column supports give the wings of the home a floating effect that makes the home feel less dense and perturbing of the natural surrounding.
