Description
The extension of the existing academic building is a visionary design that maximizes space utilization and fosters creativity. The key feature of the new building is the cantilevered open space on the second floor, seamlessly connecting to the original structure. This innovative design choice allows the area below to be dedicated to public use, creating an open, free-flowing floor plan with minimal walls to encourage creativity and collaboration in a maker space setting.
The design is diagrammatic in nature, emphasizing the simplicity and clarity of its layout. Two supporting structures flank the cantilevered central space, with one housing office, meeting, and utility spaces, while the other serves as a gallery space, enhancing the building's functionality and aesthetics. Abundant staircases, an atrium, and a spacious, visually stunning big-staircase auditorium all contribute to the sense of visual and spatial fluidity within the building, creating an environment conducive to innovation and interaction.
