For analogy between biological organisms and building design, the first one I think is the ion dynamic equilibrium in nerve system and intelligent buildings. In our nerve system, the concentration of ions like potassium ion are dynamically changing to fulfill the needs of information transportation. Thus, for buildings, it is necessary to use technologies to monitor the use or need of water, electricity, or heating according to various of complex condition of rooms or levels. The dispatch of elevator, the desired temperature, or fresh air circulation can be controlled dynamically to make them in the best or optimized use. Thus, the building will be more efficient and less waste will be produced.
Also, from the aspect of insects, their hollow exoskeleton can provide relatively high strength with maintaining in a low body weight. In the building design, it is also optimal to use light materials with high strength to provide enough braced force for the construction.
