Design Journal Entry - Module 1

Journal Entry For
Module 9 - HVAC Systems

It’s electric! I decided to use a packaged heat pump HVAC system as electricity is essential to my design. I added ceilings to my architecture model because I wanted the HVAC system hidden. However due to my beams I had to lower my ceilings to 7’10 (rather than the standard 8’). I need to think over the next few weeks if this design choice was worth it or would it make the space to tight.

My total load required nearly 20,000 CFM of airflow. Rather than using 2 air handling nits at 10,000 CFM each I decided to place an air handling unit at each floor. I wanted thin ducts therefore the largest challenge actually was connecting my return air ducts to the AHU. The sizing of the connector felt impossible, but eventually it worked.
