  • your overall strategy and the features of the structural system
  • the material and framing system selected
  • the locations of structural columns and major framing elements
  • any special structural challenges

In the exhibition areas utilize wide horizontal spacing to avoid the need to horizontal supports, and included an inner truss framing. The truss is a Warren truss to take into account the low roof pitch. I also think that keeping the exhibition spaces clear of vertical supports helps me achieve some of my design goals of maximizing daylighting and energy efficiency.

In the wings I included smaller horizontal spacing for the beams and columns, since the smaller rooms on the wings didn’t need no supports to be showing.

I think one challenge of this structural design is the two seperate buildings on a single grid system. It made the spacing a little non-standard. I think I may change this to two seperate grid sysems in the future.
