Journal Entry For
Testing Session 1
You are a employee in Stanford R&DE.
- You have to sit inside the counter for 10 minutes to make sure people swipe when entering the dining hall. How do you feel when sitting there? Would you rather stand or do something else?
- Adaptable seat height
- Leave the place: boring
- Instead of a computer, you now have a screen near your seat, and you are in charge of two more screens in front of and behind you. Do you like this change? What would you do with the screen near you?
- More work: cleaning - setting it up
- Pretend to be busy but work on assignments instead
- Music
- This design allows a diner to take only one large plate from the counter after they swipe to indicate that they have swiped. If you are in the counter and see a diner walking pass without a plate and without swiping the card, what would you do? If you are in the counter and a diner walking pass without a plate and without swiping the card, what would you do?
- Don’t do anything if they’re probably a Stanford student
- Stop with hand
- Stop by shouting
- Does this counter make you more focused on your job (making sure people swipe)? Do you feel like this counter makes you more you to greet the customers
- Yes: smaller window
- Kinda
You are a diner walking into the dining hall.
- The swiping area is larger, allowing more people to swipe at the same time. Now you are walking in with a group of people. Would you be comfortable to swipe at the same time with those in front of you to get inside faster, or would you rather keep distance?
- I like the efficiency.
- It doesn’t matter.
- There is a huge touch screen behind the counter; it almost seems like you can do anything with it. What would you do?
- Do nothing
- Check the menu
- You have a choice to adjust the music, lighting, and ventilation settings from the screen, but other people in the cafeteria might get mad depending on your choices. What would you do?
- Do nothing
- You are only allowed to take one plate from the counter. Would you get mad? Is it possible to redesign a plate to meet your needs?
- It’s okay. I don’t eat much.
- I definitely need two plates for sweet and savory food.
