What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • Which stakeholders require 2D views, and why?

3D vies best portray the scale of a design as well as how a design will look. It can be especially useful for communicating design features to clients. It can be useful for visualizing how a design will 2D views are required by contractors to communicate information on the placement of certain design features. Engineers and architects, as well as inspectors can also use 2D views to ensure buildings are designed to adequately meet building codes and requirements.

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

  • How does the level of detail in the rendering and its presentation affect the perception of stakeholders reviewing your design?

Building information for the set up of a kitchen might make a difference in how a potential client sees the design working for them. An engineer, on the other hand, might need to know the dimensions of the room and walls rather than how the casework and appliances are laid out in the room. Certain stakeholders are looking for information on the design, while others are interested in the basics of the structure. The more detailed a design view is, the easier it is for someone interested in the aesthetics of the design to visualize it.

Name some applications where viewing the building and model information in virtual reality or augmented reality would be most beneficial?

  • Are there advantages to using a C.A.V.E as a virtual environment versus VR headsets?

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

Schedule views can be useful to estimate costs and procurement of materials because they provide a list of the amount and type of materials used in a design. It can be useful to estimate cost based on different materials, and whether or not a project can be completed on time. In a time where supply chain issues cause delays in shipping of materials and increased building costs, this information is important. Schedule views make compiling this information easier.
