Design Inspirations
One design inspiration for my project is a building at the University of British Columbia, particularly because of its unique circular shape. However, I aspire to adapt this concept in a way that includes more windows to allow for more natural light.
Another design inspiration for my project is this open-concept children’s play area. I’m drawn to the open and inviting design of the space. In my project, I am interested in replicating the shape while replacing the open roof with glass to make it suitable for all weather conditions while maintaining the open feel.

An additional element that I am using as inspiration is the design of circular buildings with green roofs found below. I aim to use characteristics like the circular shape, the heavy presence of glass, and the green roof in my project. I would simplify the shape, likely only having one circle, but would want to include the design elements in my project.

I intend to also include a green roof equipped with solar panels like the image below.

Big Design Ideas + Innovative Building / System Features
Building Design Ideas
- Open-concept layout with few walls and partitions promoting the free flow of visitors through the space, making it easy to change exhibits and have temporary displays
- For Warmer Climates - Incorporate dynamic glazing to control light levels, reduce indoor temperatures, and limit cooling needs
- For Cooler Climates - Maximize sunlight coming through the glass as a heating mechanism
Innovate Building/System Features
- Green Roof with Solar panels for thermal regulation and energy generation
- Prefabricated panels for efficient construction and to limit waste
- Radiant heating and cooling as a sustainable means of temperature control
- Many windows to maximize natural light, limiting the need for artificial lighting
Sustainable Exhibition Ideas
- Solar panel exhibition space showing how solar panels function
- Section showcasing innovative water recycling mechanisms
- Green roof exhibit harnessing the sunlight coming from the skylight located above to showcase green roof design
- The exhibit would be located in the middle of the building like the children’s play area example
- Exhibit on community gardens (inspiration from Vancouver, Canada)
- Plot of public land where individuals (typically living in multi-family structures) are granted permission to grow a personal garden
- Typically used in places that were previously poorly kept- increasing greenery and aesthetic appeal
