Description

Enter a brief paragraph (5 to 7 sentences) describing the features of your proposed design that you'd like to highlight here...

For my design, I chose to depart from the classical design of the original building as the client wanted a more “daring” approach, and reflected this in the modernist, simple shape of the building extension and large curtain wall facades I choose. Putting glass as a leading material and the sharp angles in the dramatic sloping roof is meant to reflect the university’s “forward-thinking vision and the cutting-edge work that their engineering students are doing,” as per the client’s wishes. The large gallery space on the third floor features an open concept room with partial walls splitting the space up and creating more display surfaces for rotating exhibits. Its tall sloping roof conveys a sense of wonderment to visitors. Access from the indoor gallery to the connected rooftop terrace provides a fashionable venue for gallery openings and parties, with spectacular arial views of the surrounding campus. Below, in the wing connecting the three story space to the existing engineering quad, there is a large dining area with a cafe and several levels of seating providing space and pockets for student groups to congregate and socialize.
