According to Jay Gupta, 188 bikes were reported stolen here at Stanford in the 2023 academic year.

Stanford bike thefts in 2023: A review (stanforddaily.com)

Script:

Bike theft is a big problem at Stanford University. Just this Summer, bikes have already been stolen. This Sunday, one of my dormmates reported suspicious activity at our bike racks.

We need a better, safer system!

Bike theft causes stress for the target and for students who have bikes. It can also lead to abandoned and wasted bikes. That’s why I propose the Bike Defender

The Bike Defender is a smart bike rack that will keep your bike safe with its ID activated self-locking system. All you need to do is set your bike against the rack, put the cable through the frame, and then lock it in place using your student ID. If the system is compromised, it will alert you and everyone nearby with an alarm.

The preexisting ID card system allows for a quick and secure system for locking and unlocking the Bike Defender without extra keys to manage.

The Bike Defender will keep your bike safe, and you stress free!

I enjoyed your presentation! good vocalization

Competition is massive, look at normal locks

I could still steal the seat or back tyre. Over 20k plus bikes on campus... how expensive would it be to install those?

Economic sustainability is needed.

very cool to incorporate the stanford id into the lock, makes it convenient
