Generative Section Sizing
Overview:
This generative design tool allows the user to generate a series of built-up member section sizes and outputs their strength properties, cost per length, and carbon emissions per length, aiming to increase the efficiency with which custom member sizes are chosen.
- The tool first asks the user to vary dimension-based inputs, including but not limited to the steel yield strength Fy, and member dimensions such as the total height H and the web thickness.
- Next, the tool will ask the user to set certain constraints - recommended is determining a maximum cost of member / unit length (budget) and maximum carbon emissions tons / unit length, as well as a minimum strength parameter.
- Finally, the user can specify the number of studies and generations that they want performed.
- The user will receive a variety of optimized generated sections based upon the specified inputs and constraints. A graph can be produced that displays the correlation between the variables and highlights the section of choosing.
