Summary: I wanted to take a creative approach to this project so I thought about different activities in my life that may have elements that lend themselves to parametric design and optimization. Playing baseball makes up a lot of my time and I thought that the design of a baseball bat is an easy enough geometric figure for me to recreate while also having the ability to change many different aspects of the design. Bats come in all shapes, sizes, and styles and I would like to make a tool that allows the user to input their specific preferences and to use a generative design study to test a few more inputs.

Intended users

Users would be bat companies looking to create different bat configurations or players looking to find a bat design that matches maximizes their preferences.

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

Inability to choose between bat designs. Instead of designing a bat and then hoping the user likes it, bat companies can give use this tool to find the optimal bat model to make for customers.

Inputs

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

I will be creating a standard generative design study with a few control user preferences and a few testing variables to be maximized/minimized. These variables will feed into creating the geometry of a baseball bat. From this bat I will pull values such as total area and total volume. I will use these values to create evaluators for cost, style, and power. These outputs will be tested for in the generative design study.

Total Cost

Style (coolness)

Power (ability to hit the ball far)
