What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling proposed additions or renovations?

  • Why not create a separate model for the new proposed design?

Of course, having a structure to work off of is extremely helpful. It can make the designer’s/builder’s life significantly easier. It can also give the designer/builder some ideas for their new model.

In your project, which features of the proposed design did you choose to model as design alternatives?

  • Why did you choose these building features? And what were the biggest challenges in modeling them as the design alternatives?

I decided to use a lot of windows in my design. I wanted there to be a lot of light in the building. However, not opted to stay away from curtain walls for this project. It was challenging to create a building model that has a consistent flow and the necessary areas (cafe, study rooms, restrooms, etc…).
