The National Gallery of Art has two buildings on campus. The west building open in 1941 was John Russell Pope’s last design, while the east building open in 1978 was I.M.Pei’s most ambitious architectural design. The concourse connecting the two buildings surrounds visitors in a tunnel of lights also houses the National Gallery’s Education Studio.
