What sort of complexities are introduced when you construct a building complex in phases?

Creating phases has many advantages including a clear portrayal of old designs and new building components. The phase filters allow viewers to see the demolished features with color codes, and easily view the newest features. Some of the problems arise when you have many phases and you accidentally edit or add features to the existing phase rather than the new construction phase. This causes confusion and you would have to re-design those features. Overall, I found using phases quite easy because I was able to label each view well and stay concentrated on what time line I wanted to work in.

In your project, which features of the proposed design did you choose to model as design alternatives?

As design alternatives, I choose to propose options for the roof of the structure and the exterior windows. While designing the building, I found myself continuously debating whether I wanted to install a glass roof in order to allow sunlight into the structure. I was also considering creating a roof that closely resembled the original structure with an elevated Spanish-style tiled roof and a metal lower roof. Both options allow the building to seamlessly join the original structure, but the glass roof option made the new building feel more modern and innovative. Similarly, I decided to use the same exterior windows as the original structure, but the longer windows with fewer sills also gave the new building a distinctly modern feel.
