Intended users

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

I am trying to expedite the design process for buildings in seismic areas. Using some approximate equations from ASCE 7-22 my tool will calculate floor shears, base shear, and overturning moment under equivalent lateral loads for seismic design. My tool will help optimize the height of the building, the width/length of the floors and the floor to floor spacing by minimizing the base shear and overturning moment. I will also create a model of the proposed building in question using revit geometry.

Inputs

Building Height, Sm1, Sms, (these are parameters for the response spectrum) floor spacing, length/width of the floor.

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

This tool will be used for rectangular steel moment frames. My tool will calculate the approximate fundamental period of the building, construct a two-period response spectrum, calculate approximate lateral loads, and ultimately story/base shear as well as overturning moment. My tool will also render a model of the proposed building and plot the results.

Outputs

Story/Base Shear, Overturning moment, model of the building, and plots of the results.
