While brainstorming this sustainable environment and learning center, I want to design a building that inspires possibilities for the future through a modernistic design. I also want it to work alongside nature through its incorporation of water and plants.

It would be very interesting to build this center near Devil’s Lake, Wisconsin. I love the nature aspects of this area and feel it would merge well with the agricultural and environmental aspects of this region. I picture the center being built on one of these large hills, surrounded by the forest and overlooking the landscape. Building in this area would also challenge me as per my 4 credit requirement due to the varying climate throughout the year.

Moving to architectural and building ideas, the Modern Art Museum of Behance and Fort Worth Modern Art Museum is similar to the direction I had in mind. The glass walls help blend into the water features and surrounding nature. The modernistic approach with distinct lines and geometry give a sense of engineering creativity. I imagine my building adapting this rigid design.

I imagine the center being a refuge within the forest. These modern homes below show the general idea I have for the building in location.

Moving to interior spaces, I want nature to still be prevalent. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Discovery Institute integrates trees and other foliage to accomplish this. I also enjoy the integration of hardwood with the modern white and gray colors. Natural lighting from the above skylights is appreciated as well.

Including flowing water into the exterior and interior spaces of the building would also be a creative challenge. If the water could be integrated like shown below, while also providing hydroelectric power, this could be a key feature of the center to inspire creative ways of being sustainable.
