Key Findings from the Interview

  • What does sustainability mean to you?
  • ➡️ His main stance concerning sustainability is that humans today must live without jeopardizing nor compromising the future generation's ability to lead a normal life. He elaborates by claiming that we don’t have the right to overuse Earth’s non-renewable resources, as they don’t just belong to our generation. He also adds that “it’s unethical” for the future generation to inherit the planet with all of the climate issues that our generation has created, from lack of waste management and green areas, to the rising of global temperatures.

  • How do you sustainably contribute to the future generation?
  • ➡️ He explains that he acquired multiple electronic devices over the years as a result of his profession, and so in order for him to decrease his consumption of electricity generated from non-renewable resources, he has been charging the devices using solar chargers. In addition to that, he chooses to commute by foot whenever and wherever possible instead of using his gasoline fueled car in order to decrease his greenhouse gas emissions.

  • As your electronic products accumulate over time, some may lose their utility. What do you usually do with electronic devices that no longer serve you?
  • ➡️ He explains that he usually ends up donating electronic devices that no longer serve his needs while it may serve the less fortunate people’s needs. However, in case the device is old and impractical, he may end up returning it to the manufacturing company, since several tech companies have programs for people to return electronics in order for them to make use of the digital components. In cases that none of the above resorts work, he would recycle them through a local NGO.

  • After referring to your profession, have you worked on projects that followed sustainable production or manufacturing?
  • ➡️ He admits that he hasn’t worked on such projects, however he hopes that sustainable projects will be adapted in the near future. He believes that the current market is gradually shifting to favor sustainable products, and so electronic products could soon follow in these steps starting with maintaining a sustainable production process and reaching sustainable electronics.
